My Students
Our students are lucky enough to have art during the school day, but I have to work hard to fill a years worth of learning into less than 12 weeks of classes. They do love to be creative, in both art and science class, and draw and write every chance they get.
More than half of my students are low income, and often struggle in classes. Making projects engaging and exciting keeps my students excited about learning, even when they struggle with reading or English. I see 6-8th grade for art, and my scientists will be preparing for high school next year!
My Project
My students will be using the art supplies in both art and science class, using their observation skills learned in science, to create portraits and works of art during art class.
The science kits will allow my students to do hands-on activities in physics and materials science. Live demonstrations and a chance to design their own experiments will allow my students to get a more in-depth understanding for topics that are often difficult.
My students are willing to learn, and sparking their creativity both in and outside of the art classroom will give our future problem solvers who thing outside of the box. Hands-on labs, and long term art projects teach our kids perseverance and planning, valuable skills to be used in high school, college, and during their careers.
