This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My 4th Graders are an energetic group that love to learn!

My students are from a very small community just outside of Detroit, Michigan.

They all qualify for free breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner. Life is not always easy for my fourth graders, but they come to school excited with a thirst for learning.

My Project

This is my 19th year teaching elementary students. Each year I always have one or two students that prefer to stand while working. I do allow these students to stand, but it makes it difficult for work to be completed and they are more fidgety because they don't have a desk to use. This desk provides a space to complete work and a much needed foot rest.

Over the summer, I read a few articles about the health benefits of standing while working.

It is amazing how much students benefit from sitting less. This desk would give my students the opportunity to stand and learn.
