My students need stand-up desks for their better health. Children need many seating options in the classroom and these will be a great added option.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I began using a stand-up table for my students to work at several years ago when I taught 1st graders, but last year I began teaching 4th graders were too tall for the table. The addition of these standing desks would provide a great added option. Being able to stand and work allows some wiggle.
I teach 4th grade gifted students in a school that is 55% low-income students and 30% English Language Learners(ELL).
My class pulls students from 5 other schools in the district to attend the full-day Gifted program and thus my class tends to have more ELL students than the school. These students come to school each day very eager to learn and I try to provide an atmosphere which is very conducive to learning, allowing for much movement throughout their day.
My Project
These stand-up desks will provide the students the chance to work while standing as opposed to sitting all day. While I was teaching 1st graders I could simply raise a table to its tallest height and the students could stand at it to work and they loved having this option. Standing while working allowed the students to have a little extra wiggle room and it is also better for the students health.
Last year I began teaching 4th graders and these raised tables were no longer tall enough. These desks will fill the need for wiggle for my 4th graders. I do not have assigned seating in my classroom so the students will be able to take turns at these desks throughout the day, thus students will not be required to stand all day. In my classroom, I will have tables with traditional chairs, tables with storage box seating, comfy chairs to work at with clipboards and hopefully these standing desks.
These stand-up desks will provide an extra work space option for my students, allowing them to have the chance to stand and move as needed while they work.
My students do not have assigned seats in my class, so throughout the day they have the chance to move and switch their work space regularly. They collaborate regularly and these standing desks would be a wonderful addition to our classroom.
