My Students
Spotlight On Tolerance will be a student-produced news network where students will highlight a different theme pertaining to conflict resolution and multiculturalism. Segments will celebrate the school/community successes including special events, random acts of kindness, and community affairs.
The students at our school represent a rich combination of backgrounds, physical abilities and learning modalities.
One unifying factor for the students is our school's need for continuous improvement. The students that are selected for the SPOT program represent learners that show a unique need to connect with the community, as identified by their teachers, the school's disciplinarian and the school's social worker. 100% of the students live at or below the poverty line. Their need for inspired conflict resolution strategies permeates their daily lives.
My Project
My students need resources like a microphone, fabric, and costume hats to script, videotape, edit, screen and facilitate discussion of a monthly news program with public service announcements. Resources for the news program will strengthen the school while providing the students with an indelible framework for cooperative work in the future.
The students will meet twice weekly to script, videotape, and edit their monthly news program to be screened by other students via online streaming. Each month the students will focus on a unique character trait including perseverance, caring, self-discipline, citizenship, integrity, self-confidence, responsibility, respecting diversity, embracing diversity, integrity, and honesty. Be a part of inspiring change!
The SPOT project readily addresses the school's need to develop a stronger student sense of connection, while realizing the larger vision of actively engaging students in their own social and academic development.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
