My Students

Expectations are high for all of my students. Students' needs are considered when planning activities that will ensure that learning is engaging and meaningful.

My students require additional support with reading and writing skills, yet despite how challenging school work can be for them, they continue to work hard.

Many of them are friends who have attended school together since they were in grade-school. They are part of a very diverse school whose mission is to promote intellectual, social, and emotional growth. Many of my students have a difficult time expressing their ideas in writing, and, therefore, believe it is too hard. For some, writing is very laborious, and their writing is often illegible.

My Project

Funding this project will make two Apple iPad mini tablets with speech-to-text technology available in the classroom to allow students to say their ideas out loud and see them in writing. Their focus will shift from putting words on a page to organizing and revising their writing. Additionally, they will become proficient at using the iPads to record, edit, and send information.

Students will learn that they have good ideas and can express them in writing through the use of technology.

As a result, students will be more confident in their abilities and more engaged in learning.
