Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Imagine being in a middle school math class but still struggling with organization, basic facts, and staying focused. Many of my students go through this each day.
98% of my students receive free or reduced price lunch.
They often face struggles beyond the norm outside of school. They have to help their parents take care of siblings or go help their families by working to help provide daily needs.
As the 8th grade Special Education math teacher at my school, I have many students who need additional support in order to be successful in the classroom. Our school has close to 70% of our students labeled as English Language Learners. We have students from all over the world, so there are many languages represented in each classroom. Despite these challenges my students work hard to be successful every day.
As my students' teacher, it is my obligation to make sure they get everything they need to be successful in my classroom and outside of it. I want to give them as much support when I am with them, so that when they get home and may have little time to do homework, they will be well prepared.
My Project
My students will use the Drill Practice throughout the school year to become more competent mathematicians. This basic practice will be on many of my students' level, but will push them as they work. The laminator and files will help my students stay organized. This is often a struggle for my students. These materials will help them with that daily schedule. The Bouncy Bands will help my students stay focused during their classroom work.

These materials will help my students with special needs not fall through the cracks. It will help them become stronger and more confident mathematicians and problem solvers in my classroom and beyond.
