My Students

"I want to learn to read chapter books!" This is what I hear from my special needs students who have not mastered their reading skills.

I am the fortunate teacher who works with special needs students at our school in Oregon.

My students are all qualified as special education students and have unique learning styles and difficulties. Our fabulous school is large and is situated in an old neighborhood with many artists. Our school has 500 students of which 75 are identified special need students.

My Project

I am requesting 12 Samsung Series 5 Chromebooks to teach more effectively and allow my students an opportunity to utilize technology to practice reading at their level and in areas of interests. The programs that are now available for computers will motivate my students to read modified texts in high interest areas. My students can also then do activities that are included with these programs that promote reading comprehension (such as: "Who were the characters? What is the problem? How did the characters react?")

If my students can learn to read and understand what they have read, their lives can truly be changed.

Nothing is more frustrating to students than to think they can only read simple books while all of their peers are reading exciting chapter books. My special learners will thrive with these Chromebooks!
