My Students
Help us save trees and space by providing electronic books for the environmental science class. What a better way to model tree conservation than to read from books that do not sacrifice trees. The students will enjoy hours of reading pleasure inside and out of the classroom.
We are a small rural school with limited space and funding for classroom sets of reading books.
This is a high poverty school community with a high rate of unemployment. Many of the students do not have the resources needed to buy required reading for upper level classes such as AP Environmental Science, AP Biology, and/or Environmental Science.
My Project
I am requesting the 2 Nooks so that students will be able to download wildlife guides to help with identifying trees, insects, birds, plants, etc. while conducting observations. Students will also have access to required reading of magazines and novels. Downloading the data collected to the TI engineering graphing calculator will only help to increase student skills for future work in environmental careers. We will be able to better use electronic graphing equipment outside and bring the data in to the classroom. This will help when submitting data to organizations such as G.L.O.B.E., a world-wide organization of elementary, middle and high schools whose goal is to collect and track world climate change.
Our students take great pride in working hard for the environment.
Now that the state is requiring that high school students pass an environmental science class, we have so many more students to work with in our classes. Our equipment is very out dated and we need to help the students move into the present technology. This is one big step for them. The Lorax would be very proud to know that we are saving trees by using reusable electronic reading devices.
