My students need a storage unit in our classroom where their items of discovery and inquiry can be on display to be explored and discussed in all academic areas.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Robek's classroom raised $240

My Students
Do you remember what it was like to gather and collect items of interest? Do you remember using a magnifying glass and discovering details while raising questions and drawing hypothesis? Kindergarten students are inquisitive and have natural talents to uncover learning when they have space for it.
My classroom is the home to 46 kindergarten students.
Two classes share this space. They alternate full days of school. They love to collect and observe the world that is right in front of them. Once they have items to wonder about they want to spend time talking, sketching, and noticing details. Our time is choppy so we need spaces where our materials and projects can wait until they can return. They are also more inquisitive when they can explore and see objects they have gathered.
My Project
We have the perfect space for a shelf to house our items for inquiry. It will be located right behind our nonfiction bookshelf which will lend a nice connection for reading and inquiry. The bookshelf will be in natural light from our big windows which will provide opportunities to see different things at different times of the day. Students will be able to write and sketch what they discover, applying their writing knowledge to communicate their thinking. We will be able to observe and record our thinking to share with others and conduct experiments that might change our thinking and learning.
One way for students to feel connected to school and their learning is to share their thinking, experiences, and objects.
Through sharing these objects language will guide relationships between classmates. I have searched our school for a bookshelf of sorts that would be just right for our needs and there are none to be found. Right now, students might bring something in, share it in a whole group setting and take it right back home. This doesn't provide the opportunity to deepen our thinking
