My students often look forward to science class because of the hands on activities. I encourage my students to explore and question their world. These kits will help my students with exploring physical science including electric, energy, g forces, etc.
My students are high poverty, inner city, special education students.
They are in a self contained, small group classroom. My students usually are not exposed to science before coming into my classroom. I try to give them a variety of experiences and try to create a love for learning and science.
My Project
My students need to learn basic concepts of energy. These kits will help them identify different parts of energy and comprehend how energy actually works. I asked for the green energy kit so they can explore the renewable resources, technology, and jobs associated with it. I asked for the robot kit because it will actually be something high interest that they build and will work.
This project will allow me to take their learning to deeper levels of understanding and thinking.
I currently can only do static electricity and simple circuits. This project will allow me to open up their curiosity to the world around them. The roller coaster kits I plan to use as an assessment after they learn about energy in place of a traditional test.
