My Students

A typical day in my classroom is epitomized by a cacophony of students engaged in self direction after they have been taught something that builds upon our goals. I am hoping that my students will end the year with a well rounded sense of the world they live in and how to be an integral part of it.

We are a small community school with an excellent educational program that is broad in scope and highly supported by university, public, and private community partners.

Our students come from homes with caring and involved parents. Our students strive to do well in everything they do. Many of our students go on to top high schools in the City of Philadelphia. Exposing them to Shakespeare and the arts is an important part of their greater success.

My Project

The students will read "Othello" in mid-winter into early spring. The culmination will be involvement with the Shakespearean actor in the development of scenes to be acted out for their classmates. The actor will spend a week with the students engaging them in theater games and other activities to increase their understanding and connections between the written text and the performance aspect. In addition there will be a focus on enunciation and Iambic pentameter as it impacts on the emotive aspects of the performance.

Donations to this project will help us maintain the high standards we have set for our students.

It will afford us the opportunity to continue to make connections to the arts in the subject area classrooms. It is my belief that a well rounded education is only such if it includes exposure to the arts. by donating to this project the donors will support an educational program for students who may not otherwise have an opportunity to learn and enjoy the works of William Shakespeare.
