This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure Science." -Edwin Powell Hubble
My classroom is filled with intelligent, motivated, and inquisitive learners who constantly seek out opportunities to gain a deeper understanding of the world around them.
Our school is a full inclusion K-8 School, which means that we are have a diverse group of learners with a wide array of needs. Most of our students speak English as a second language and respond very well to scientific activities rooted in firsthand experience.
I am amazed by each student's ability to use the power of curiosity to overcome mental, physical, and social barriers placed before them. There is no doubt in my mind that these students have the ability to have an incredibly positive impact on the world around them!
My Project
Microscopes are vital for scientific exploration, and nothing can replace the experience of seeing microscopic organisms under a powerful lens. My students need 5 compound microscopes.
Each grade level in the middle school has a unit in which students study microscopic objects. Our science teachers do their best to represent these objects with pictures, sketches, and items bought from the store. There is, however, no substitute for the hands-on experience provided by actual microscopes.
Microscopes are one of the more costly items in any science classroom. It is vital that students have access to microscopes that are durable, user-friendly and produce a high quality image. Your donation will allow students to work in groups (3-4 students per microscope) to analyze the structure of cells, plants, and animals in an authentic and meaningful way.
Microscopes will allow an invisible world of microorganisms to come to life for generations of students.
These five microscopes will provide countless students with a deeper understanding of their world for years to come!
