My Students

My second grade classroom is an interactive environment where all students are encouraged to succeed. My students know the importance of perseverance and problem-solving. We spend a significant amount of time reading and interacting with our curriculum. Students can often be found working together.

My classroom is composed of a diverse group of learners.

Students come from a variety of families and backgrounds. As a Title I school, approximately 65% of students qualify for free and reduced lunch. I have students who receive extra support for language acquisition from our English Language program, reading and math instruction from special education certified teachers, and students who get additional academic support from our Title I teachers.

My Project

I am asking for a set of 8 science tubs that have everything I need to help my students investigate 8 important science concepts that align to the Idaho State Science standards, including: plants, animals, and weather. Each tub includes 40 cards with engaging, standards-based activities covering 5 core curriculum areas from math and language to science and social studies. Included in each tub are ready-to-use materials for exploring concepts in depth, including science tools, write and wipe experiment posters, vocabulary cards and more!

Without help from donors to fund this project, I would not be able to purchase these materials.

I know, from my 9 years of teaching experience and the knowledge I have gained from my graduate studies in Curriculum & Instruction, that students learn best when they are actively exploring and participate in hands-on learning activities. Providing my students with meaningful lessons that integrate reading, writing, math, and science is critical and this kit will allow me to provide such activities.
