My students need 5 bilibo seats, which are comfortable, developmentally appropriate places to sit in our classroom. Many young children do not do as well in regular chairs.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Six year olds are squirmy. They spend a lot of time in chairs that are miniature versions of adult chairs. We may love those seats but they are not as perfect for young children. Sitting still requires a lot of effort and I would rather have that effort expended on our learning.
My students attend a suburban, public elementary school.
They are a highly diverse group in every possible way. In my classroom, I have students who speak seven different languages at home. Many of my students are first or second generation immigrants. All of them are thrilled to be at school and are excited about learning and all of the things we do.
My Project
I am requesting 5 Bilibo seats for my students. I have one of these chairs in my classroom and it has proven to be perfect for my students. They sit on it when we are on the carpet together or when they are working at a low table. It allows them to gently rock while they are sitting. This rocking helps quite a few students focus because it offers them a small, physical movement to keep them from getting fidgety. The chairs can be used in many ways as well. They can be used in the rocking manner, or turned over to sit on like a stool, or to stand on. My students love the one we have. It is a help and great fun!
Having more of these chairs will make it possible for many of my students each day to be able to sit in a way that is genuinely comfortable for them.
Being comfortable is important for being able to focus on things that are difficult. Our classroom has many different places for students to sit, work, and learn but more of these chairs would be an essential addition.
