My students need school supplies like pencil sharpeners, pencils, folders, notebooks, markers, etc. to help them be successful throughout the school year.
Do you remember being in middle school? Did you ever have a pencil? Can you imagine getting to school and not having school supplies because you lost them, forgot them, or couldn't afford them? Stuff happens. There are many reasons students don't have school supplies, but bottom line they need them!
My students are a hilarious bunch of seventh graders.
I cannot wait to meet them because school hasn't started quite yet. Our middle school is a diverse bunch of kiddos in central Illinois. I enjoy teaching them, and I laugh every single day. My students come from diverse backgrounds and a variety of economic statuses, but they all should have equal opportunities to succeed and learn.
My Project
I requested quite a few things. Most of the things that we do in my classroom require something with which to write. Whether it is a poster project, an essay, a test, vocabulary words, notes, or anything really, my students will likely need a pencil. If you know any seventh graders, you will know that pencils are the last thing on their minds. Often students need folders and notebooks for class because they either have run out of paper, lost them, or simply didn't have access to them.
Pencils, erasers, and a heavy duty pencil sharpener will help my classroom run much more smoothly. There is nothing like digging through your own desk drawers looking for something your student can use to write. This will enable students to be successful, and it will also break down another, although small, barrier between them and learning.
Many times we do activities that require markers, highlighters, and big paper that help engage students in learning and depart from a lecture.
Meeting the basic and more complicated needs of my students helps me help them to succeed.
I don't want lack of materials like pencils and paper to stop them from being successful. I also seek to engage my students through projects or activities that require supplies beyond the bare necessities such as highlighters and markers.
