My Students

Scholastic News is an excellent source for educating students about current events in all areas of study. Scholastic News has a Pro/Con piece in each issue that is extremely helpful with providing a contemporary prompt for the students to create their argument writing piece.

Elementary is a beautiful school with around 425-450 students of varying ethnicity. Our teachers are talented professionals who do their best to provide an excellent atmosphere in which to learn and grow. Sixth grade is team teaching this year so that each student gets the best education possible. Our students are developing a great work ethic as well as learning about the world they live in. They will need this ethic to change and solve the complex problems they will encounter. All 60 students are willing to bring their "A" game each and every day to become successful students.

My Project

Reading Scholastic News is a marvelous way to introduce students to the world. Every issue is packed with articles and pictures that help students process and evaluate events happening around the world. My favorite part about Scholastic News is the Pro/Con piece at the end of the magazine. This is a great way to help students learn to write an argumentative essay, which is part of their core curriculum. The pieces, written by students their age, are helpful in teaching the students how to put together information in their own essays. The layout of the magazine helps my students layout their own class magazine in a more professional manner.

Because these students need to be able to evaluate and make informed decisions in their lives, having a resource like Scholastic News will broaden their knowledge as well as enable them to process information into well written essays and papers.

It is interesting how one story or one article can literally change a person's attitude or outlook on life. Scholastic News can have this kind of impact.
