My Students
My second graders made leaps and bounds in their reading progress last year! We are hoping to keep that momentum up as all of us move to 3rd grade.
My kiddos over come great odds just to come to school in the morning.
Our school is in a high poverty area with a large majority of our students come from shelters. They are wonderful, curious kiddos, who love to ask questions and explore to find the answers! They are proud of their work and they are excited to share their new knowledge!
My Project
The classroom rug will give us a central meeting place to learn new skills before the kiddos go off to work on becoming expert readers and mathematicians. The shelving unit will be the hub for their work stations as the kiddos work on applying skills that we just learned and practiced at our United States rug. We do a lot of inquiry learning which has the kiddos working in groups on topics that they feel passionately about. They use large chart paper and colored pencils to organize their thinking and plan their next move!
Most of my students do not come from a stable or safe home.
I want to give this to them in my classroom. I want them to feel safe in my room. Part of that is having a cozy environment, where they feel safe to express their feelings and opinions. I want them to have a place where they can curl up with a good book and travel to a new land.
