My Students

Kindergarten rocks! My classroom is full of children eager to learn and at the kindergarten level they soak up everything you teach them. They work so hard to become reading and writing rock stars by the end of the year. It is true everything that you need to know, you learn in kindergarten.

My students are the best!

Most of them come in already knowing how to read or are read to daily. My job is to help them discover their love for learning and to ignite their passion for education. This is something that I love doing. They love hands on activities and they love, love, love becoming independent learners. My school is the best as well! We have a positive learning atmosphere for our learners and we work together so that each child can be successful. Our parents are also wonderful partners in our learners education. Our parents are eager to help in any way that they can. Everyone works together to develop our young learner into an independent, happy, and successful student.

My Project

The books I am requesting would become part of a classroom library. I want to create a library specifically for them to use and to take care of in the classroom. They would be sorted by reading level so that my learners could pick their "best fit" books and read them during our Daily 5 learning time. My learners would be taught how to pick a good fit book and then as the year progresses they will become more independent readers. Since the students are able to pick the books that they want to read this will help foster their love of reading. I want to acquire a variety of levels and fiction and nonfiction books for them to enjoy. This will be the first step in creating their library and their love for reading. I don't always want to be the one picking the books that they read, I would like them to have a choice.

I really feel that a classroom library with various leveled books will make my learners better readers and will foster a love for reading in the classroom.

They will become independent readers by the end of the year and the will be able to find books at their level and read them for enjoyment.
