My Students

Have you ever started reading a book and fell in love with the characters... or the plot, the author, the topic? There are so many reasons to love reading, but children need to first being inspired to read. Having engaging books in the classroom is one way to accomplish that goal!

My students are second graders.

They live in moderate poverty. Many do not have access to a wide array of books. I want my students to be able to use my classroom library to explore reading and expand their imaginations. They need to realize that there are many great books out there. My students love books about sports, books in a series, space books, and graphic novels. Students often ask to take books home because they have read through the books that they have at home. I need to have plenty so that I can offer them such a wonderful opportunity.

My Project

My students will become better readers and more engaged students. They will have opportunities to experiment with the types of books that they like and to develop a love for certain genres of books. They will have the chance to be engaged during their school day by books in their interest level. Their lives will be improved because in order to be a successful member of our society, a person needs to be literate! The first step toward that goal is inspiring a love of reading.

This project means the world to my students.

To be able to tell them that I am adding 40+ books to our classroom library will motivate my students. They will become better readers and writers. School will be a place of excitement and learning for them.
