I am requesting six chair balls for our elementary students and six larger chairs for our Jr. High and High school students so all will have a comfortable place to read for pleasure.

My Students

" Real luxury is time and opportunity to read for pleasure." Jane Brody. My students need a place to sit down and read, a place that is comfortable, quiet, where they know they can relax.

We are a small school in a small community with a big heart.

I have grades PK - 12th that come into the library. Most of our students live in poverty. I want everybody to feel welcome. This year I started a "Million Word Club" for the Jr. high and high school students, and it went over great! I had students reading and testing this year that I have never seen check out a book in the past. It was awesome! For the elementary students, we use AR reading and I like to reward them for the tests they passed. Sometimes its just a $1.00 coupon to the library store, but that means a great deal to the students. My greatest joy this year was to help a 4th grader find a chapter book for a project (which she told me should wasn't going to read) but when she returned to the library the next week she was so excited. She read the entire book and wanted another that was similar to what she read. This was the 1st book she has ever completed. The students here make everyday worth it.

My Project

The ball chairs will be great for the younger children. A ball chair is designed to improve a child's concentration and posture. We can use these for reading and also at the tables if we are working on a project. I also feel like it would be a great rewards system - to earn the privilege to use a ball chair instead of sitting on rug. The bigger chairs would be great for Jr. high and high school students as they would give them someplace to sit and read. I can group the chairs and have a seating area for students. I would like to start a book club. These would make a great setting for our discussions.

I want our library to be a place that all the students can come into and be comfortable.

It doesn't have to be library time; it can be over the lunch period or whenever a teacher gives them permission for research or just pleasure reading. I know they will be more comfortable if they have a nice place to sit.
