Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every morning we begin our day with a smile and "Good Morning" to each other. My students both need and deserve basic school supplies like pencils, erasers, and crayons to help them succeed in school.
Many people know that educators spend a lot of their own money on classroom supplies and materials.
Unfortunately, teachers that work in schools where students struggle to bring in class supplies are faced with a double whammy. The small amount we started with has dwindled and now it's time for more! MGE Conquerors are an amazing group of economically disadvantaged 5th grade students. With this population, these students are unfortunately at-risk to high crime, poverty, homelessness, unemployment, poor health, poor fitness and poor nutrition, patiently waiting for them outside of the school gates.
My Project
With the supplies we have requested, such as pencils, erasers, scissors, and crayons we can do our daily work without the distraction of searching for the items needed. It will also raise their confidence for those who are unable to afford their own supplies. With all the necessary school supplies, my students will be able to spend quality time learning, rather than worrying about materials. They no longer will have to struggle to write with a pencil that is too small to hold.
We do a lot of hands-on assignments on our interactive notebooks which require cutting and pasting, illustrating and writing. My kids love to create things that go along with lessons, therefore, we often run out of supplies. I have exhausted my budget for supplies for the year and I am having a difficult time getting parents to replenish supplies. By funding our project, my class will continue to produce hands on creative work. Having supplies readily available will make class time more functional and enjoyable.
When students don't have their supplies this makes it difficult to get started.
Therefore, I am unable to maximize instruction and productivity in the classroom. Students can not transition from one point to another when their basic needs have not been met. These school supplies will help easy transitions to ensure students are successful in all subject areas.
