My students need to access age appropriate books even though they may read at a lower level. CD books and five portable CD players will allow all students to discuss books.

My Students

"Wow! I want to read that book!" I hear those words many times and am excited to hear them. However, some students simply, due to their reading level, can not read them. Their friends are reading them and talking about the books...but they can't.

Our urban school provides a diversity of students like no other.

Not only do we have students of different color but students of different socio economic needs. Our students are ferocious readers who spend an hour a day reading independently and discuss their books.

My Project

Students will have access to five CD players and books on CD that they want to read every time we are reading. This will change the way I teach book club and the way we discuss texts! I will be able to more well rounded discussions and create a more cohesive classroom.

Instead of separating students by what reading level they are, I can focus on students' interests.

This creates a student centered classroom of students who are engaged in their learning. This also helps to level the playing field with all of my students by allowing all students to access different genres of books.
