Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Welcome to Bilingual Speech Therapy! Today in the Speech all students will be working hard to achieve their speech goals. Some may work on sound production, some students will learn how to decode cvc words, and others will continue to expand their language for a variety of purposes.
The majority of my students are Bilingual Spanish students who have special needs.
My students are all children who are respectful and have won my heart from day one. They come from households where parents are hard-working, and are involved in supporting their children. However many times it is difficult for them to provide them with enrichment activities such as trips, technology, and extra support.
Future Leaders Elementary School is a small but growing community school. Being that the school is expanding, the population of special needs students who receive speech increases as well. This also means that as a community the amount of resources is sometimes decreased to fit the needs of all students.
My Project
My students require so much support and tangible experiences. They are all English language learners and require multi-modal learning through pictures, objects, and displays. My goal for them is to help my students expand their vocabulary by providing them with contextual rich learning. My students are students who need time to get up and perform a variety of activities rather than stare at flashcards or a worksheet. My students need visual materials to manipulate to understand vocabulary and object relationships such as around the home objects, zoo animals, and barn animals. These manipulatives will allow them to explore features of items they see in books and can make the context come to life. They will be able to to categorize objects, understand spatial relationships, they will know object names, state actions, create sentences, and be able to understand tongue placement with tongue depressors for sound productions.
The donations will help my students be active participants and engaged in all activities presented.
They will be able to carryover the vocabulary, syntax, sounds, and knowledge acquired to their classrooms and homes. Being effective communicators will make a world of a difference to them since they will feel better about themselves and can use this knowledge in every setting.
