My students need these essentials like construction paper, paint, and chart paper in their kindergarten classroom for everyday use and special projects.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students love art! At my school and in my classroom, art is incorporated as much as possible. We even have an art center during literacy centers based on what we are studying at the time. All we need to incorporate more art is the classroom. We need enough to last the whole school year.
Our 100 year old public school building houses a very diverse student population in terms of race, language, and socioeconomic background.
This is a group of students that learns best and thrives through doing.
For the last few years we have faced significant budget cuts and they will continue to get worse every year. These cuts make it hard for us to get some of the essential supplies needed for the classroom. We are being forced to pick and choose each year what is most important at the time, but to me it is all important and needed. My kindergarten students need a variety of supplies to assist in their learning process and to give them the best opportunities possible.
For kindergarten students art supplies and chart paper are very necessary in their day. We are creating projects and making anchor charts with chart part every day of the year. These supplies are an essential part if our curriculum.
My Project
For a recent Earth Day project, my students made earths with shaving cream and paint. Unfortunately our paint supplies in the classroom and around the school have been low and we really had to ration. We use construction paper for projects to show what we have learned all the time. Chart paper is used to make anchor charts that are put all around the room to help our learning and for each unit of study.
These supplies are essential to a kindergarten classroom and help my students in so many ways. With your donation we will have a variety of colors to make our "greenhouses" that are put up on the windows to watch our seeds grow. We will have the paint to make snow as we make and write about snowmen and winter. We will be able to practice our one to one correspondence with numbers at the beginning of the school year with a variety of paint colors. Our 100th Day activities will look amazing. We can hang up all the facts we have learned about bears that we have written on chart paper.
Your donation to this project will help to put essential supplies into my kindergarten classroom that should be there.
But, as it goes with budget cuts, this stuff is usually the first to go. You can help to right this wrong and put the supplies back where they belong.
