Magic Purple Power Carpet
Our first grade students love to work on the carpet to do many things. Some of our most important learning and sharing happens on the carpet.
My students are eager and enthusiastic learners.
They are loving, have fun in their learning and funny. They love to sit on the carpet, the closer to me the better. They are very physically active as one would expect of six and seven year old students.
Our school teaches three areas of respect: respect yourself, respect others, and respect property. They have shown that they can respect property and would love to respect a new, unstained, and unworn carpet.
We have decided that we all love purple and perhaps by having a brand new purple carpet, it will give them the 'purple power' they need to be and do their best!
My Project
My students understand whenever we have 'carpet time' important things are about to happen. Many times, new topics are taught here. Story time is done on the carpet. We have class meetings and number talks. We talk about things that are very important in our hearts and minds. There are many times, throughout the day, they may choose to read to self or with a partner or work on math problems together. It is a place that invites them to work on projects together.
This enhances the ability for my children to learn important information in a less formal setting. It allows the children to move around, instead of sitting in a hard chair all day.
I truly believe my children will be so delighted, beyond words, when they see this new 'purple power' carpet.
It will give them a sense of pride to have something so new with the confidence that they can and will treat it with respect! I believe they will be appreciative and thankful. They will also take ownership and do their part in keeping it nice as they enjoy it!
