Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." Dr. Seuss was right on the money, and knew how vital reading was to success in life.
Our students are so eager to come to school each day!
We have about 100 six and seven year old students in first grade. Our school is a Title I school which means that a certain percentage of our students live in poverty. About 65% of our students qualify for free or reduced price lunch. We are located in Utah.
My Project
Reading is the most important thing learned in first grade. Leveled books that are written specifically for reading instruction are very costly. We are requesting book bag pouches to protect our books. These bags will help students keep their individual books organized and protected. We will probably be able to use these bags for about five years before they wear out.
Our students face many socioeconomic challenges in their daily lives.
They may be subject to abuse, poor nutrition, neglect or their parents are just struggling to get by. We want to build a solid foundation in reading to help students be successful in their education, so they will be able to rise above poverty level.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
