"Tell me and I'll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I'll understand." This proverb speaks to the experiences I want my students to have in music class. Adding fun learning props will improve student participation and cause a deeper connection with the subject matter.
I teach in a rural school district and see nearly 450 students in Kindergarten through 6th grades.
Community members often feel isolated as they must drive 20 minutes to the nearest town to buy groceries and other necessities.
The community offers no local fine arts performance opportunities or musical venues. Students must travel over an hour and a half for cultural events like concerts and art museums. For most students experiences with musical instruments, dance and composing come only at school.
My Project
Your donation will provide some fun new props for the music room. Rubber baseballs will be used for beat and rhythm activities. Puppets will provide performance opportunities for students that include dramatic play and will provide a safe voice for shy students that may sing with a puppet but not by themselves. Beanbags will be used for beat keeping activities, singing games and for teaching younger students letter and number recognition skills. Other props like flashlights and super stretchy bands will be used to demonstrate understanding of listening activities and for creative movement. This collection of props is so versatile that students in all of my K-6 classes will be able to use them to sing, move and learn!
Prop to it!
Make your donation today and help add some new learning props to our music classroom. Music education is exciting, engaging and essential and these props will help students in my classroom experience music in many new ways!
