My Students

High-tech skills are critical for America’s pipeline of future workers. This is the basis of the STEM initiative that our school district is undertaking. This particular project will give high school students real-world, real-time learning opportunities.

I teach AP Calculus, Calculus II, Computer Programming in Java, and Programming Android Apps to high school students.

Primarily these students are juniors and seniors who are planning on attending a college or university upon graduation. Many of my students aspire to careers in STEM related fields such as computer scientists, engineers, mathematicians, biologists, chemists, and physicists.

My Project

My students need Google Nexus Tablets and cases. These materials will benefit both my mathematics and programming classes. In my Programming Android Apps class, students work in teams to design, create, publish, and support an Android app to the Google marketplace. This is a semester project where students do in-depth research, presentations, and beta and alpha-testing. The tablets will also be an extremely valuable resource for my mathematics classes. The students will have access to their online textbook, calculator tools, and resource materials at their desks.

To succeed in tomorrow’s workforce, students need a solid foundation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics with fluency in the technologies that will power the global economy.

This project will engage students via the technology and apps they use every day. This opportunity will provide students with a rigorous and relevant educational experience that will help create our next generation of developers, entrepreneurs, and scientists.
