My Students

Everybody needs a sharper pencil! We have vanquished two cheaper pencil sharpeners in our quest to pen the perfect essay, the greatest story and the most expressive sentence and . Other daily supplies also need replenishing: paper, pencils and markers.

My middle school students write every day!

We write essays, stories, short responses to prompts, word lists, sentences, and notes. They are still learning to get organized, however, and it helps us move along when I can supply them with a missing pencil or piece of paper. My students attend a German immersion school in which they have half their classes in German and half their classes in English. They also learn French, art and music, both vocal and instrumental.

My Project

My students need a sturdy pencil sharpener for their busy pencils, more new pencils, paper and markers because we are ALWAYS writing down our great ideas! We will be able to have sharpened pencils whenever we want! This makes a huge difference, since we have been dealing with two broken and reluctant sharpeners, as well as an assortment of small, plastic hand-sharpeners. Also, many students run out of notebook paper and pencils and with this project, I will be able to give them paper whenever they need it. We use dry-erase with small white-boards for games, and are always in need of more markers. These may seem like small requests, but they are our daily tools for learning, and are always in demand.

Learning takes place within a small window of time in my classroom.

Having adequate supplies means that we can work immediately and not waste that precious window of opportunity. I want to spend that time investing in their lives through teaching, not hunting around the corners of the closet, hoping to find a random spare pencil or piece of paper so we can continue to learn.
