Please Help Update Our Dated Nonfiction Collection
My students need new nonfiction books in the media center. We have not had funds for new books in several years. As a result our nonfiction collection has become dated.
West Stokes High School is nestled at the base of the Sauratown mountains. Because we have not received county funding for books in several years, our library books have become dated. Due to the lack of funding, parts of our nonfiction collection has become dated and inaccurate.
We need new nonfiction books to bring our collection up to date!
With over 900 students, West Stokes has students from various socioeconomic backgrounds. Our students love learning but do not always utilize our library because no new, nonfiction books have been added to the collection in several years. I have rearranged the media center and added fun touches to make the room more enticing to students. Now we just need the books!
My Project
Students will use the nonfiction books on a daily basis, by selecting books that they enjoy reading for pleasure & use for classroom projects. New books will also make the media center more appealing to students who may not have access to books at home or the means to get to a local public library. Most of the nonfiction books we have are dated donations that students no longer read.
By putting new books into the hands of our students, we are encouraging student success!!
New books equals an increase in library circulation, which leads to more conversations about books. With more students visiting the library, we are inviting students to utilize the resources around them!
