My students need 1 set of extra hula hoops for our Fitness Unit, 1 set of Pillo Polo equipment with storage, 1 wall mounted jump rope rack and 1 Tchoukball start set.
I am a PE Teacher in Flat Iron Manhattan. My school and students do not have much space and equipment in order to be successful in PE. On my first day, we did not have any balls, cones, poly spots and/or other simple equipment PE classes need!
I work at a High School that is known for high academic achievement.
We graduate 100% of our students and have an extremely high college preparation rating. All classes at our school are honors or college credited classes. The students are not your typical High School student. Many of the students are extremely thoughtful and helpful to each other. They love being part of school family and they make teaching worth it because they are always going above and beyond for both students and teachers. As a teacher, I feel extremely lucky to be part of this school. I am excited to be part of this learning environment and I want to help the students as much as I can. However, most of our students struggle economically. In fact, 60% of our students qualify for the New York City free lunch program. Many of our students struggle to buy simple school equipment for their classes. The students are awesome kids and I want to be able to help!
My Project
My inspiration for the resources I have requested are for both a Pillo Polo unit and Tchoukball Unit. At our school, space and equipment is extremely limited. We do not have simple equipment such as balls, cones, or poly spots. I want to order PILLO POLO and TCHOUKBALL for our students so that students can be physically active in small spaces, while enjoying what they are learning. My students will learn the value of team work, communication, sportsmanship and being physically active. Many students do not have the time or resources to be physically active throughout the day, so I want to be able to provide my students with as much activity as I possibly can. These games are extremely fun to play and most people buy this equipment for recreational enjoyment. If I were able to get this equipment, I will be able to show students that they can be active while having fun with friends.
I feel an important aspect of my teaching is improving our community through the use of physical activity.
This equipment would help my PE classes and in after school programs by providing activities outside of the classroom. My students will want to be part of our community and stay in our school longer because they will enjoy what they are doing while being active.
