My Students

My students love coming to Physical Education class. As a result, I enjoy bringing new and exciting activities into our curriculum every year. Chicago Public Schools give us a $250 dollar budget for supplies every year which doesn't go very far in purchasing equipment.

I teach Physical Education in a K-8 elementary school on the south side of Chicago.

My students are primarily sons and daughters of public city workers (police officers/ firemen). The community is extremely supportive and the students are respectful to the staff.

My Project

Tchoukball would be a fantastic addition to our Physical Education program. It can be played indoors or outdoors and is totally different then any other activity we play. Tchoukball was created in Switzerland by Hermann Brandt, who was concerned by the numerous serious injuries among athletes resulting from sports prone to aggression and physical contact. He believed that sports should not only form champions, but also contribute to the creation of a better and more humane society. He designed tchoukball to contain elements of handball (it is played with hands, and the balls used are similar), volleyball (as the defending team must prevent the ball from falling) and squash (since there is a bounce). Tchoukball has become an international sport, played in Brazil, Canada, China, the Czech Republic, Great Britain, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Japan, Macau, Philippines, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan, and the United States. It is governed by the Federation Internationale

My goal is for my students to become "lifelong movers." By continuing to introduce new and fun ways to be active, hopefully my students will be happier and healthier people throughout their lives.
