This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Kindergarten is not what it use to be. Our days are packed full of working on reading, writing and math in the classroom. These 5 year old children are expected to be reading by the time they go to 1st grade so time on the playground is very important.
My students come from lower income families and they do not have bikes to ride at home.
Many of their families struggle daily to make ends meet and my school offers not only lunch daily but also breakfast for all children. We as a school family try to give these students as much as we can. And like all children, my children want to experience everything.
My Project
Each day we work very hard to get these children up to grade level so a great deal of time is spent in the classroom working. We have a nice playground with a sidewalk that surrounds it so I plan to let seven of my children share the bikes and ride on the sidewalk while the others are able to run and play on the equipment. This will help them be able to get some of the energy out after working so hard.
I am guessing you had a bike when you were growing up and spent a lot of time on it after school.
These children do not have this so getting these bikes will offer them the opportunity to experience that fun we remember when we were young.
