My Students

Students in my classroom thrive when they have access to literature that models the writing we are learning about in class. They often make recommendations to each other when they find a book that is helpful or sparks a new idea. I want my students to love what they read and love what they write!

I have a diverse group of students in my class of 24.

They come from many different cultures and backgrounds. They are enthusiastic learners because literacy is important not only at school, but in their lives.They love it when new books are introduced and soon become favorites!

My Project

With the help of the books provided by this project all of my students will have access to persuasive writing books as I teach a persuasive writing unit. Some of the books I am requesting are Dear Mrs. LaRue: Letters from Obedience School, I Wanna Go Home and Can I Keep Him? With these books they will be able to find the features of persuasive writing within the text and even gather new ideas for their writing. They will be able to locate strong arguments and share examples with the class.

Reading and writing go hand in hand.

When students have access to quality literature, they are motivated to learn, learn, learn! Students will be experiencing and using persuasive writing for the rest of their lives. I want their first experience to be the springboard to a life long love for writing!
