My Students

Health, character traits and drug prevention now tie into physical education classes daily. As times change, PE teachers are learning that technology is vital to all of us. This PE teacher has personalized digital lesson goals to learn about Windows 8. From there, I will bring those to my students.

Our elementary school has 535 students who love physical education classes.

They are definitely energetic, fun loving and I absolutely love working with all of my Pre K through 5th grade students. I teach physical education classes and sports, as well as teaching character traits, health and drug prevention. As a new PE teacher in the school, I would love to offer my students lessons with technology eventually. To do that, I must first embark on learning more myself. Once I have completed this personal learning journey, I can bring more to my students in terms of using project based learning with a Windows 8 laptop. With my mentor, I'd sit and learn more about this mobile Windows 8 tool. With me as the student again, we agreed to meet to learn about the physical aspects of this tool. How to use it as a learning tool for myself would be my 1st professional development stage. As a mobile device, I could connect it to my interactive whiteboard and bring the device to my students.

My Project

As a PE teacher who brings not only physical education to the children, but the importance of character traits, health units and drug prevention lessons as well, I have an interest in learning about Windows 8 to eventually help my students in my classes. My action plan in terms of Professional Development would include meeting 3 times with my school's technology coach. We've set up a lesson plan to guide me with my personal journey. My tech specialist and I will meet for 3 sessions (1 to 1 or in groups). Goal 1 of my PD path would be to learn more about this Windows 8 mobile tool. After learning the physical aspects of this tool, the 2nd goal would offer effective project-based learning activities for my students using this Windows 8 laptop. With this particular plan of action, I know I can eventually bring effective heath, PE, & drug free digital programs into my classroom.

For now though, my path lies with learning Windows 8 and its uses in the classroom. I plan to step out the box to learn about this tool & how to utilize them. Through the help of our tech leader, I know I can move forward with the knowledge gained in this professional development project.
