My students need a sheep washing/sheering stand with side safety rails for the school mascots. This will ease the chore of cleaning them for events and games, and also maintenance.

My Students

Agriculture is unlike any other subject. It is a hands on approach to learning. We have 2 Dorset rams(our mascots) whom we take care of in my classes. They appear at games and county functions. The students take pride in the animals and the work they are able to do with them.

My school is in a county which is very low income.

The poverty level is high and the students thrive on hands-on learning experiences. Only 10% of people in the county have above a high school diploma. The county has a high agriculture sector and it supplies much of the money to the economy. Teaching these students hands on skills in the agriculture classroom give them an option to use them once they get out of school to enter the job world. If college is not the path for them, I can at least equip them with skills that can be used in the "real world." The kids love anything hands on, this is why having live mascots on campus is an awesome learning tool for my students. Maybe someday they can use the animal skills they learn in my class in the real world.

My Project

Students will be using the requested sheep sheering/washing stand with side safety rails to take care of the rams. We wash them before the football games and also before events in the county. We also have to trim hooves, sheer wool, and some medical care. With the stand, students will be able to do this with more ease. A skill like sheering or washing is something they can use outside of the classroom at home or even in a job.

My project will make a difference, because it will give my students more hands-on activities.

Animal science is a subject where the learning awesome if you have the means to use live animals. Students can actually see and feel the things we talk about, as well as model these activities outside of the classroom. The mascots are very popular in the county and the middle school students always look forward to coming up to work with the rams. The project would be used for years to come.
