Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

The world around us is changing more each day and our teaching methods must change with it. I want to help provide access for my students that may not otherwise have the opportunity to use 21st century technology. This technology will help them learn how to be financially responsible citizens.

I teach a large kindergarten class made up of 28 eager and ready to learn 5 year olds in a high poverty area of South Carolina.

My students come from a low-income, rural area of South Carolina, but are very eager to learn new things. They attend a large elementary school which houses pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.

My Project

Having an iPad in our classroom will make teaching about financial responsibility more accessible to my students. This technology will allow my struggling students to have the iPad use apps specifically made for young students to learn to save money to earn more money. What an amazing gift my students will receive when they learn that learning about money can be as fun and adventurous as their favorite video game or television show.

The biggest obstacle we face today in getting technology is funding.

As school districts are forced to cut their budgets, technology purchases are among the first to be cut although we are still required to make sure our students are proficient in using technology. Please help me to give my students this opportunity for proficiency.
