Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Some of my students don't believe they have what it takes. Some of my girls believe science, math and engineering are for the boys. This year, my goal is to change their mindset. I want all of my students to be confident. I want my girls to know that they are scientists, mathematicians and engineers.
My students live in the desert and many have never traveled beyond "the sand curtain." They are inquisitive and fun loving.
They are embracing science along with me in my first year as a science teacher. They are passionate to know how things work and why phenomena happen. I hope that many will be the first in their families to go to college someday, or the first in their family who studies sciences at the collegiate level.
My Project
We are requesting a class set of Science World to help support our science curriculum. This magazine highlights scientific studies and advances from around the globe and focuses on the many disciplines of science. We will read and annotate the articles, using them to practice our reading and writing skills while we learn about science. My hope is that we can use many of the topics in conjunction with our science text, as engaging introductions. Some articles may help us launch our own research as we get excited about science. My hope is that these magazines will help us fill gaps in our knowledge while igniting a passion for science in the hearts and minds of my students. I want all of my kids, especially the girls, to feel prepared and confident that they can contribute to the scientific community.
Your donation will help change my students' lives by helping the curriculum come alive!
It will help relate what they learn in text to the world and see that they are surrounded by science and STEM in so many ways every day. These magazines could be in the hands of kids who will one day be featured inside its pages for their big discovery, invention or solution to a global problem.
