Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are wonderful sixth graders who love to learn. They are so creative when using technology to create projects like iMovie trailers and movies to explore science and math. We have been using a set of iPads we had on a temporary basis and now we need our own to keep our learning exciting!
My students come to school every day looking forward to learning something new.
Being from a high poverty area shouldn't hold them back. We just need to put technology into their hands while they are at school because it is not something they have access to at home. Infusing science and math lessons with hands on activities can be done but only if it can be supported with technology equipment in the classroom. I believe technology should not be a once in a while special activity but a part of the daily routine.
My Project
My students can use the iPad to show the solution to a math problem or to graph data collected in an experiment. When it is mirrored using the Apple TV we can see exactly what they see on the iPad. As a teacher, I can also put information I want them to see on the iPad and then project it to the whole class using the Apple TV. I think it will greatly improve communication and learning.
This equipment will give our class the STEAM advantage because it will allow a new level of information sharing within our classroom community.
I am hoping to teach my students how to use technology as a tool in their work rather than just an entertainment device. I think it will change their lessons from paper and pencil to a modern system and give them a chance to become more proficient users of technology that they do not get at home or in other classrooms.
