Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students learn best by doing. Many of our students are English Language Learners. One of the best techniques educators can use to help these students master science concepts is to provide hands on labs.
Our population is 91% Hispanic, with 92.6% Socioeconomically Disadvantaged and 39.1% are English Learners.
In order to reach these EL students it is important to provide real, relevant and challenging labs that will help students completely understand various science concepts.
My Project
Students will investigate electrical circuits by building snap-together electronic projects that demonstrate renewable energy. Invention kits also provide opportunities to design and build wind, water and solar powered devices. Students can test variables, using multi-meters to measure the electricity generated by their inventions and then refine the designs. Our students could also create solar-powered room lights and phone chargers.
This project is a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) based project that explores the impact of renewable energy generation.
Science lessons using the STEM model ensure that our current and future students are receiving a 21st century education that properly prepares them for the real world. Studies show that students exposed to STEM education practices are more likely to take more challenging classes in high school and college.
