Dr. Seuss' quote "Only you can control your future" is so true! As an educator, I want to control my future and be the best teacher I can be. Through this professional development course, I am choosing to control my future to learn more. By doing that, I am offering more to my students, as well.
Our class is a new section this year at my new school.
I am currently a new Pre K teacher at an elementary school. The community where I teach is known to be a tight knit community with great parental support. My school has more than 500 students from Pre K through fifth grade. I am new to this school, but from what I have observed, I see technology is a priority to them. My students are energetic, lovable and eager to learn. Our school focuses on technology integration with the students daily. I am fortunate to work in a school that strives for technology resources in our classroom. At this time though, we don't have many Windows 8 computers. I have a personal goal to learn how to work with a Windows 8 all in one. I would love to have one to use with my eager students eventually. Now, with that said, I do know I need to step back and be the student once again, but I am more than willing to do so because, in the long run, I know both my students and I will benefit from this journey.
My Project
As with many schools, we don't have many Windows 8 computers. I met with our tech specialist to see if I gained one if she could help me. She agreed. Together, we set up a plan of action for Professional Development. It would include meeting 1 to 1 or with groups to help me to learn more about Windows 8 formatting. The lesson plan for my personal learning path would mean meeting for 3 times to help me grasp Windows 8. After that, I will work with Project Based Learning activities for my students. Through the use of the requested Windows 8 laptop, I will learn about the system & how to implement project based learning with my students later. The plan includes working on 2 things. First, I'll have Windows 8 lessons to learn more about it. The 2nd part will help me guide my students later on. Before I get to the 2nd part, I obviously have to become a student & learn about Windows 8. My tech coach's agenda is @ http://www.vrml.k12.la.us/dozier/eye/profdevsessions/ProfDevelopmentW8.pdf.
As Dr. Seuss says, "Only you can control your future." I want to do that and work to became a better educator.
Together you and I have an opportunity that would enable me as a teacher to learn more about the use of Windows 8 computers. I know the journey will be worth it. It is time, for me to step back, look to the future and become involved as a student again. Would you consider helping me with my future as an educator?
