My students are just learning to read, and I want them to develop a LOVE for it! This will only happen if they have the right books - not too easy and not too difficult. My students each need a place of their own to store those "good-fit" books so that they can gain confidence and grow as a reader.
My students come in every day excited to learn.
They are very different in their income levels, family structures, and educational abilities. We are a Title I school in Kansas, striving to meet the needs of our diverse students by providing small group and individual instruction and making the most of the resources we have available.
My Project
To become better at anything, we have to practice! I need to set up a system that allows my students plenty of practice reading books that are perfect for them. I have requested a class set of book bins that will be used to house approximately 5 "good fit books" for each student. They will get to exchange books each week so the bins will always stay filled with fresh, interesting books that will inspire students to keep reading. By having their own personal book bin filled with books, students will not waste time going to the library and searching for a book on their level every time they finish one. The next book will be waiting for them in their bin so they can spend more time practicing - which is exactly what they need to become better readers!
By donating to this project, you will help me foster a love for reading within my students which will help them be successful readers in the future!
