My Students
Are you an expert at something? In first grade, students select a topic and become an All About Expert on a non-fiction topic. In order to achieve their quest to be an expert, they need books at their level!
My Two-Way Immersion classroom is an exciting experience where students from two different languages come together as learners to work together and grow.
The majority of my students receive free or reduced price lunch. No matter what their economic status or dominant language, they are all eager learners that love to read and discover everything books have to offer.
My Project
I have requested a new listening center with a portable CD player, 8-station junction box, non-fiction read alongs, and non-fiction vocabulary readers to assist my students in their quest to become non-fiction experts.
Non-fiction texts are extremely intriguing to budding readers. My first graders explore non-fiction text in writing and creating their own all about books. These resources I have requested will serve as mentor texts to my students.
A listening center is a fabulous way for students to dive into text that may be too difficult for them as readers, but are very capable to listen and comprehend. These resources will offer my students opportunities to identify non-fiction text features and interact with text while doing research for their all about book.
Your donation will put high quality non-fiction texts into the hands of my students.
These materials will serve as mentor texts that will allow them to explore the characteristics of non-fiction text, as well as, assist them in writing their own books. The listening center will allow students to interact with rich text that otherwise might be out of reach of the majority of my students.
