My students need light covers that naturally enhance their learning, and create calmer classroom environments. Help us diffuse harsh fluorescent lights!
It warms my heart everyday, to hear everyone, students and staff, sing the shared vision in the morning. We even break into song doing the dishes, or walking down the hall. It's the glue that holds us together, and keeps us focused, as we look our challenge straight in the eyes.
Our school is located on an island, just outside of Charleston.
The students come from low-income families, and many of them face academic and/or behavioral difficulties. Academic levels in one classroom, can span five grade levels. We are combating our overwhelming needs, by personalizing learning for every student.
My Project
With light covers, our students' behavior and academic achievement will be directly impacted and improved. The light covers will create a positive and calm atmosphere. By setting up a positive and comforting environment, students will be set up for success, to engage in cooperative learning activities, with one another.
According to research, a significant percentage of elementary age students experience visual difficulties, which can lead to behavioral and academic difficulties.
Research also states that the imperceptible flicker and brightness of fluorescent lights only worsen these difficulties. Fluorescent lights can cause headaches, anxiety, and fidgety behavior. However, fluorescent light covers immediately reduce all of these ailments and issues, making it possible for students to engage at a high level.
