Remember studying about matter and how solids effect things such as bridges? Or learning math concepts and not totally understanding what your learning. A Makerbot 3-D printer will give my students access so they can make the abstract come alive. Seeing, touching and discovering = LEARNING!
My students are 2nd graders living in a rural East Texas area.
They are a group of precious children, who come from hardworking families trying to do the best they can. But learning doesn't come easily for them, they don't have a lot of "special" things or circumstances. They love technology, but many do not have access to technology in their homes. They learn best when they have individualized hands-on experiences. I am trying to give them all the help I can and this Makerbot 3-D printer will help them SEE what they are learning!
My Project
At the beginning of school we were studying matter and how different SOLIDS could make different bridges....This concept was so hard for my kids to grasp. They couldn't SEE how length and height made a difference in bridges....with the 3-D printer they could. My students will be able to use the Makerbot 3-D printer for is making 3-D objects out of their drawings in math. Money, with all the faces....Geometry- no more pictures! 3-D objects will actually be that.....3-D! No more drawing 2 squares and connecting with dots! Math is on of the hardest areas for them to understand. Having a Makerbot 3-D printer will give my students greater opportunities to learn these abstract concepts. Science, Math, Social Studies, they will all come alive!
The MakerBot 3-D printer will give my students an invaluable tool that will be used for years to come.
The advantage of being able to learn concepts with hands-on 3-D "CREATED" objects will be incredible! The sky is the limit with this printer! My students and I would be incredibly grateful to receive this 3D printer......"Oh, the places we go"..... in our 3-D world!
