Every day in my classroom my students work collaboratively as a team. Collectively we work as whole class team, but more importantly they work in small group teams. Think of us as your favorite sports team. We compete, we set goals, we celebrate victories, and face challenges.
My students are the most incredible people on the planet.
The students at this school are committed to being life-long learners and it is so apparent through the hard work they do. I was welcomed to Mountain View as a new team member this year and I love it. I have taught in several states and other elementary schools, but this school is the best. It is all because of the amazing students that attend this school and I am so excited to return next year better than ever! The students have great families and support at home. I also work in a community that is dedicated to student achievement, and I am surrounded by a fantastic team of co-workers. This school is focused on PBL or Project Based Learning. I am so passionate about this philosophy that students learn best through hands-on and meaningful experiences.
My Project
In order to make my lessons more meaningful I would like to incorporate more technology into my everyday teaching. For each team of students to have access to an iPad will not only relate more to their everyday lives, but will give them more opportunities for self inquiry and research. As my students work together in their teams my hope is that as they are making connections to what we are learning that they will naturally develop questions and be able to become more independent by using the iPads as a reference tool. I have one teacher iPad that I have used and shared with my students, but it becomes very difficult with so many students. I want to be able to incorporate educational apps I have learned about through professional developments to differentiate and make daily lessons more hands-on and affiliated with this technologically advanced generation of kids.
This project will improve my classroom in so many ways.
As an elementary school teacher I am dedicated to helping mold my students into independent and life-long learners. I visualize my students using the iPads every day of school to become more independent through inquiry based hands-on activities. With my guidance and support these students will be prepared to become more and more self-sufficient as they mature and prepare for middle school, high school, and beyond. Please help!
