My students need 3 more Chromebooks to continue to support collaboration and creativity. This will give them an increase of equitable access to updated technology.
Hunger does not describe the desire that my student’s crave after placing their hands on a borrowed Chromebook. My third grade class has become intrigued with the many different facets of learning that can be possible with a piece of updated technology.
My students and I enjoy challenges but sometimes it has become difficult to equitably share such a technological treasure in our class.
In my classroom, it is still common to see 3-4 students sharing a computer, if it is up and running. At times, this has help exercise our problem-solving skills but there is an urgent sense of need per the student's request to ask for MORE CHROMEBOOKS to use in our class.
With the recent addition of a few Chromebooks, the students are self- motivated in applying their technology skills to projects and research. Each student has quickly blossomed and are developing their leadership roles and confidence in showcasing their talent and work. They have volunteered and offered their knowledge to teach other classes and grade levels in the school about how wonderful technology can be used.
My Project
My class will continue using Google Classroom to continue to learn how to be self-directed, responsible, and accountable for their own learning. The extra Chromebooks will provide a better equitable opportunity for students to complete their work online or create projects using multimedia. In addition, the Chromebooks will also make groups even smaller which will allow more students opportunities without confrontation. The students will continue using Google Apps for Education to write stories, Google Drawing for presentations and explaining their reasoning, create presentations using Google slides, type documents through Docs to name a few. Furthermore, the students will continue to conduct ongoing research and post work online for collaboration, feedback, and comments from other students, schools, and teachers.
I have only given the students a taste of technology and they are asking for more everyday.
They will continue to inspire and teach peers and others the benefits of using technology. If each of the students receive more equitable amount of time using additional Chromebooks, they will transfer their confidence of using technology as life-long, self motivated, individuals ready for the challenges of the 21st century.
