Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Save our lungs! Our sixty year old school has beautiful oak trees that shade our front lawn and yet all their hard work producing clean oxygen for us is for naught when my students inhale the chalk dust from the chalkboards that remain in our antiquated classrooms.
My students are part of an inner city community in Texas.
My students are bilingual and many of them have immigrated to our country to receive a top notch education. Because they have traveled so far and been through so much, they come to my classroom with a wonderful sense of purpose and community. Our school is old, as is our district, but the ideas our students produce are as fresh and innovative as any brand new school. They come to school eager to learn, they ask engaging questions and they enthusiastically try their hardest in any situation.
My Project
Our inner city school is old and is still equipped with the antiquated chalkboards of yesteryear. With the IDEA paint and base coat, I will be able to transform our dust-filled chalkboard into a sleek dry erase board befitting of any 21st century school. The IDEA paint system is revolutionary: with just one coat (which I will apply when the children are not in the classroom, as I do not want the students breathing in the hazardous fumes), the IDEA paint can turn any smooth surface into a dry erase board.
My students' interest in showing their learning to the class will be invigorated; they will be anxious to use the assorted colors available to them and will be exposed to something that most students in my state take for granted: a simple dry erase board.
Having a dry erase board in the classroom will impact my students in a variety of ways.
First, it will eliminate the chalk dust that permeates our air. Second, it will inject more color by way of dry erase marker during instruction. Lastly, it will be more enticing for students during small group work, as students often work together at the board.
By donating to this project, you will help my students come one step closer to having a 21st century classroom.
