My students need classroom supplies to make an interactive, collaborative math classroom. Some of the supplies include chart paper, markers, glue, and scissors.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach high school mathematics at Veterans Memorial High School in South Texas. About 95% of my students are Hispanic and literacy is a huge goal. Students gain math vocabulary through interactive activities, like creating posters. Students explore math concepts using an interactive notebook.
Our high school provides many academic and career opportunities to a 75% low income and 95% Hispanic population.
Our students deserve the best, but are often limited because of financial and social issues. Support is needed to provide supplies in order to make learning more fun and engaging.
I have requested supplies like poster paper, markers, scissors, and glue so that my students can create posters and presentation boards during Algebra 1 class. Students gain a lot from practicing teaching their peers and are more involved in learning when given a project. I have also requested composition books so that my students can keep an "interactive" notebook. This is a teaching technique using markers, colored paper, glue, and scissors. Students create foldables to summarize learning in a succinct way. Colors are used to emphasize key points. Vocabulary graphic organizers are made to help students with acquisition of academic vocabulary. Many of our students are ELL, so this is vital
My Project
I have requested poster tablets, markers, pens, composition notebooks, glue, scissors, and other various classroom supplies. These are supplies that I normally purchase out of my own pocket and often have to restock throughout the year. This donation will provide students with basic classroom supplies and also allow for some poster projects and interactive notebooks throughout the year. Many math classrooms consist of a teacher lecturing to the students. I try to involve the students directly in the math. I want them to grapple with the concepts and learn that math really is useful in the real world. In order to do this, students need to first find joy in learning. They are able to do this when the activities they are provided are fun and engaging. I encourage artistic creativity in mathematics and would be extremely grateful to receive these supplies.
Students enter high school with a negative opinion about math.
They think that the only way to learn math is to be lectured to. I want my students to be engaged in exploring math concepts in a unique and original way. Having basic art supplies allows for this. Also, I want my students to pursue mathematics in the future. I teach mainly Algebra 1, to 9th grade students. Learning Algebra 1 is fundamental to their future in mathematics, since all future math will rely on this foundation.
