My students need 15 different types of hands-on manipulatives, including tubs of letters, alphabet stampers, plastic coins, and word wands, to support learning.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Did you know that learning a new skill with hands on activities is more beneficial to a student than just hearing about it? My students desperately need manipulatives and you can help make this happen!
I teach first grade at a Title I School.
This school is the only 'open classroom' school in the state. Our classrooms are only divided by partitions. The students in my classroom come from diverse ranges of population and abilities. The children come from working homes, single parent homes, and broken homes. The classroom consists of students with full learning abilities as well as learning disabilities. I like to inspire each of my students to do their best and to reach their goals.
My Project
Whether it be by writing, listening, seeing, or doing, students come to school to learn something new everyday. Learning can be more beneficial for a student if they are involved in a hands on activity. I have requested several manipulatives such as counting cubes, magnetic letters, letter tiles, and kid counters.
Students can take the manipulatives to play, create, and even use to work together to learn something new. For example, the students will be able to take the magnetic letters and spell out his or her spelling words or sight words. Learning by playing will enable the student to grasp concepts more effectively.
By helping me fund this proposal, you will open a whole new world for these students.
They will be able to learn by seeing and doing, instead of just writing it down. Students will engage in group activities as well as create something individually, all while learning. These manipulatives will give students chances to apply what they are learning and reinforce the concepts they have already learned.
